It's that time of year again when we show our love to others during the holiday season via the gift of technology and unabashed consumerism. Seriously, though, gadgets make for a great holiday gift, especially given the wide selection of doohickeys out there. On that note, here is a list of nine gadgets that just might fit the bill whether you've only got a budget of $25 or you're rich Uncle Pennybags and yawn at handing out presents worth multiple Benjamins. If you don't consider yourself to be tech-savvy, it can be hard to find a good tech gift for the more electronically minded folks in your life, especially since the products themselves are constantly changing. So to figure out which tech gifts and electronics are actually worth the splurge this holiday, I spoke with Ben Arnold, senior director of innovation and trends at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which has produced an annual report on consumer technology holiday purchasing patterns for the last 25 years. According to its research, 66 percent of U.S. adults are planning to purchase a tech product as a gift this year, so to help you buy the actually nice gadgets before everyone else catches on, here are 13 electronics and appliances that are bound to be popular this holiday season. Voice speakers, or smart speakers, have been big sellers over the past couple of holiday seasons, and Arnold's research leads him to believe that they'll be popular once again, "especially since Amazon released several new products a couple of weeks ago." He anticipates that smart displays--"which is a screen with all of the smart-speaker features built into it"--are going to be especially popular, like the newest iteration of the Echo Show.

Father's day is still a week away, yet the essential question of buying our dads something worthy, a product they don't already possess is plaguing many of us. The essential gifts, such as a watch or a pair of sunglasses just don't make much sense as most people' dads already have those, sometimes more than one. You don't really want to buy your dad something he won't use on a regular basis -- it should be something memorable that your dad uses or at least has the inclination to use -- some tech gifts might be a good option. If you don't have anything in mind, a tech gift is a safe option than say, boring ones such as a tie or a shirt. Apple released a list of suggestions for Mother's Day a month ago that included the iPad Pro and Apple Watch. Amazon and Best Buy recently listed tech gifts you can give out this year, including sales on the Amazon Echo and Google Home. Amazon released a list of gifts "for the mom who loves tech time." The list includes the Fire HD 8 Tablet, Kindle and other gadgets.

There's one in every family: The uber geek who pretty much has it all when it comes to tech basics. They don't need a laptop or a fancy TV. But don't worry, there's always some gap in their collection of gadgets that you can easily fill. And remember, the more niche the product, the better gift it is for these folks. You could get them started on building out their smart home with a lock like August or Kevo.
